What do you think, if we collect the more serious news into one topic? A whole category would be even better, but maybe this has to do - for some while at least.

Piirka, why not open a new thread for each topic inside the science /technology area now that there is a specific area dedicated?

x2 that sounds like a good idea, also nice to have it's own section here. Good stuff.

Yes, that's what we should do now as there is this separate area.

Progress M-27M spinning wildly after separation with Soyuz 2.1a LV. Orbit is pretty hight to be called safe, but with some insertion error in apogee from nominal, that can tell us about some 3d stage anomaly prior to separation.
There will be attempts to save it using TORU system ie "human control" from Mission Control. But chances that command link with "Ground" and telemetry channel for TORU will be OK are pretty small.

The attempts to establish link with TORU system were from 4am to 6 am MSK and failed. Still rotating fast. There will be more attempts until it re-enter in atmosphere, but after this try all looks like that spacecraft is lost.
