  • Top 20 museums around the world

Oh... it's done by attendance rather than anything else. I've been to all the DC museums many, many times and #2 on that list, especially, isn't really that good. It's pretty small - the equivalent natural history museums in NYC or Chicago are much better. Same for most of the art museums in DC. They don't really deserve to be on the list, and only are because they kind of feed on each other here.

The British Museum is the only one I'll ever be interested in visiting from here on out. After walking through so many, I think it's safe to say that they're the most boring places on Earth.

Same here, attendance is no way to measure the quality of a museum or if its worth while to visit (interest aside). I personally dislike 99% of the modern "art" so a modern art museum would hardly register as a museum to begin with. Technology and history related museums are generally interesting. Take the dredging museum here in the Netherlands, its historic collection is interesting and really good for those interested and the further collection (especially its archive and library) is also pretty good (including models of vessels i sailed/worked on) but it would be boring as hell for people with no maritime background or interests. hence its attendance is reasonable low (but stable and they make enough to keep going) but it does not make it a bad museum or one not worth visiting.

Well, half of that list is not interesting to me, and the other half is half-baked. I'd rather have a Top20 of military and technology themed museums. Make that a top 50, so I get a good to-do list out of it

I have been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York four times, and it ain't for the paintings. They have the largest collection of arms and armour in North America.

And unlike some museums(Art Institute Chicago), they proudly display this very large collection in a very nice well lit area.

Also not on the list is the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago which has a U-Boat that you can take a tour inside, a restored Stuka, and other cool aircraft.

Ooooh that statement is downright heretical. I've been slowly making my way through all the museums in my state, some great ones and some horrible ones. The Trident Missile Museum is one of the best. If you ever make it to Arizona go there and take the "top to bottom tour." 8hrs of ICBM goodness.

Pima Air Museum is an awesome place. Their new B-17 exhibit is worth the trip alone.

Such lists can be subjective. For me personally I prefer smaller out of the way museums.
