VALLETTA, Malta — Italy’s new populist government has delivered a jolt to European migration politics, prompting a diplomatic standoff with its refusal to accept a rescue vessel overloaded with migrants.

Even after Spain offered to open its doors on Monday, the incident was not fully resolved, because the Aquarius — with 629 people aboard, including unaccompanied minors, pregnant women and people suffering chemical burns — still faced a grueling multiday journey from near the coast of Malta to the Spanish port of Valencia.

Most of these Subsaharan men sell watches, fake jewellery or sunglasses, while women either make hair or are prostitutes or both. That's what I've seen in Barcelona, Malgrat de Mar, Salou, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
Yes, or in the agriculture as farmhand.

      • It rubs me the wrong way that obvious human trafficking under thin guise of sea rescue continues to be practiced virtually unopposed and unpunished.

        • For ‘Aquarius’ migrants, going to Spain is either paradise or punishment

For Algerians and Moroccans, Valencia is not what they had in mind when they chose the Libyan route

          • Doesn't matter because they'll still be able to travel to the wellfare paradises of northern Europe.

            • Lately and currently, illegal immigrants from Maghreb countries who want to immigrate to Europe illegally usually do it by the route of Turkey.

Since the entry of these immigrants through the Spanish route is more risky and entry is not guaranteed, the opposite for immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa, who find in Morocco a ticket for the European paradise (a paradise for them).

Doesn't matter because it's almost impossible to send them back anyway. Moroccans (zero chance of asylum except if you're a transgender political activist from the Rif) are almost impossible to deport because they lawyer up thanks to the immigration-industry NGOs and because Morocco isn't taking them back. Only 18% of Morrocan refugees last year were deported back to Morocco from the Netherlands last year of the total that was meant to be deported.

I wonder how much we still pay in "development" aid to Morocco and similar countries and how quickly they'd be taking these people back if the entire EU stopped trading with them until they did.

You as a European citizen can put those questions
to the people in charge of your country and the EU and surely they will give you convincing answers, nothing is free and each one defends their interests.

In relation to the immigration of the Moroccans to the EU, I think that it is going back to being a thing of the past, and it is not as numerous as it has been years ago,Morocco is converting from a country exporter of immigration to a country receiving immigration.

I don't have statistics for 2018, but in the whole year of 2015 80 Moroccans came to the Netherlands, in the whole of 2016 the number rose peaking in october 2016 when the number climbed to 389 in that one month. I have some other statistics regarding immigration that I'll post later.

                    • In 2016, 23.889 Moroccans came to Spain. Was the second nationality after Venezuela in number of people arriving to Spain that year.

The total number of Moroccans living in Spain in 2016 was 667.889 .(legally) probably they are about 800.000. And about 350.000 became naturalized, and are now Spanish.

In the village where I live, they are 27 Moroccans, of a total of 88 foreigners, and this village has 1.035 inhabitants. Morocco is the first country in foreigners here, after Morocco they are 24 from Portugal and 22 from Romania, and several other countries with little numbers of people.(december 31 2017)

So is strange to me what you say Moro.

France actually get more tourists than Spain and is the #1 destination in the world for foreign tourists.

I have witnessed the same when visiting Tenerife and mind you, that was in 1998.

So what have we got to ''offer'' to these third world migrants/refugees? Nothing, nada. They are under skilled. At best they speak two languages other than their own mother tongue and that's about it.

I also live in a small town, what bugs me is not seeing third worlders because they are ''blacks'' or ''arabs'' only because they are farting around all day, loitering on the streets while the taxpayers are working their asses off for the welfare and well being of third world new born babies.

Honestly, I don't know how the people of Europe can be so patient and resiliant.

                        • Jake, I think a lot of people in France are discriminated. yet they are less discriminated by their skin color than by their ways. If only this could be understood...The Vietnamese boat people we picked up off the coast of Vietnam, the Chinese...they are part of society and not complaining. We could have picked up a million more, it would only have been a gain. Some cultures however are extremely backwards and the people from those cultures think that the people in France should do part of the way...No, especially that their failed cultures are the reason for their need to migrate. There´s hardly anything to keep other than food.

Yes many are. We could rewrite History after WW2 and how the Antillais (créole) were hired en masses in hospitals for their women, and how their men worked for the SNCF (French train system).

Or how the Maghrébins (North Africans) who settled in France worked for Simca, Peugeot etc in many major french cities before these plants closed shops and moved to different countries.

The Italians notoriously settled in South France and it wasn't without violent incidents back in the early 20th century, the Polish also settled en masse in Northern France during that time to work in mining.

                            And so forth.

I understand that we are a nation of immigrants, and those in need, and refugees are welcome, but immigration for the past years has skyrocketed. Unemployment is still at 10% and we cannot take in the misery of all the 3rd world as a Socialist, Rocard once stated.
