Congress to Consider Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan Heights

Congress is set to consider a new measure to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the contested Golan Heights region that separates Israel from Syria, a key piece of territory that has become all the more important since the civil war in Syria brought scores of jihadist fighters, including those backed by Iran, into the region.

Interesting, but definitely for the best. About time someone put pressure on the Arabs for their intransigence.

      Absolutely correct.

If ...and it is a big IF, this results in official Executive Branch recognition of Israeli annexation of the Golan, the EU and UN histrionics will be priceless.

Historic level comedy gold right there!

      Anyhow ...

If the Europeans didn't act so cynically, crying for votes or commercial interests in the Muslim world, I would care.

However, we know they are in it for the votes and the money, so I do not.

Ironically, I think the QIZs in Jordan have done more for sustainable economic development in an Arab nation than any European investment program in the region.

It'd be better if there was a fully functioning Syrian government to make this threat to. Right now I suspect they have other things on their mind.

It’s time to recognize reality on Israel’s Golan claim

Now that the American embassy has opened in Jerusalem, Israel seems to be turning its diplomatic attention to the Golan Heights.

The Golan, which dominates the northeastern part of Israel, was captured by the Israeli Defense Forces in the Six-Day War. In 1981, Israel unilaterally annexed the territory, an act recognized by no other nation.

the Golan Heights is occupied territory just like the West Bank to suggest other wise is for Israel to support Russia's claim ... at least Russia can claim part of it's territory was given to Ukraine by a Ukrainian dictator and the majority of the people in Crimea are Russians whereas Israel cannot make the same claims about the Golan and the West Bank

Israel says it wants peace but only on it's terms the Golan and West Bank are nothing more than land grabs by Israel .... the International community will never recognise Israel's claims because the international community only recognise your pre 1967 borders

No peace, no land. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

This is because right of conquest is not acceptable anymore to the UN.

Israel does not want peace it wants more land for the growing population hence the illegal settlements in the West Bank ... the truth is Israel needs another war to expand it's borders if it tries another land grab on Syria Russia would grind Israel into dust the only other alternative is another Lebanon land grab

Right, that's why Israel returned Sinai in exchange for peace, parts of the West Bank & Gaza in exchange for peace, pulled out of south Lebanon and later pulled out of Gaza (with plans of doing the same in the West Bank, that never came to fruition due to Hamas winning the Palestinian elections and later taking over the Gaza Strip).

I get that you aren't a fan of Israel, but being dumb about it only makes it easier to debunk you.
