  • What are the consequences to the US if Mexico implodes?

What are the consequences to the US is Mexico implodes due to a combination of Trump's tariffs plus a sharp drop in remittances from the US due to massively reduced immigration, or if Trump gets the idea to tax outward remittances to Mexico to pay for his wall? Say if Trump tariffs plus factory closures causes large scale increase in unemployment and widespread unrest?

I thought Mexico had imploded decades ago.

Last time I checked Mexico was a high income country with a GDP growth rate of 3%.

So why are millions of its citizens so eager to risk jail to come to the US to work and live illegally?

Hopefully it would make it easier to build the wall. Maybe add a minefield to it as well. And I wouldn't just tax outward remittances, I confiscate them entirely. Why should illegal aliens be allowed to wire home money acquired illegally? If I deposited $100k in my bank account, not only would the IRS crawl up my ass with a microscope, if they discovered I acquired it by selling cocaine they'd take the money and throw me in jail. Why should illegal aliens get a pass?

Most of the Mexican immigrants I've seen were either working construction, lawn/gardening care or other services related to maintaing middle class homes, painting walls and cleaning and what have you..

Slow your roll, how many do you really think send back home $100,000 in drug money?

The consequences are heartbreaking stories about workers in Mexico. The American best interest is to help Mexico to become a Canada-like but it might cause more illegal immigration, as it's been mentioned. And you can't build a wall. If poor countries want to improve their wealth, they should depose marxist leaders and allow for the free markets to grow.

I read that the violence was encouraged by social media, and bots, so I also wonder who will benefit if Mexico destabilizes? If I can find that article, I'll post it.

Mexico gas price hike sparks protests, looting, violence

Mexico City’s cyber-police force said it was investigating the false rumours and had identified over 1,500 accounts responsible for causing incendiary phrases like “ransack a Walmart” to trend on Twitter.
Alberto Escorcia, a blogger who specialises in investigating the use of bots in Mexico, warned that there was a danger that the propagation of threats and misinformation could discredit and distract from the many legitimate protests occurring across Mexico. “They’re encouraging people to commit violent acts and to loot shops. They’re calling on people to take Congress on Monday,” he said. “These are criminals who are practically promoting terrorism, this has nothing to do with social protest.”
Escorcia warned that further violence was possible over the coming days and lamented that Peña Nieto’s message had done little to reduce the tensions caused by the hike and exacerbated by the bots. “I can’t be sure who’s behind this because they cover their tracks very well,” he added. “We’ve had five very difficult days and it seems like someone wants the situation in Mexico to boil over.”

How USSR collapse has affected the Europe at the time..? Lots of emigration, organized crime spillover, not something US hasn't seen before. Perhaps, on a much bigger scale.

As long as it's in their own country I honestly don't care.
