Either way, one stares into the abyss of retaking Gaza.
I don’t think Israel should retake Gaza, too much of a headache. However, deterrence works so long as it is enforced.

They need functioning Hamas leadership to reign in the front line guys who are launching the missiles. Israel knows who the leadership are, can send out discrete negotiations, things get put back under control and the firing stops.

If you take out the higher leadership, who despite all their faults are mature and cautious you give control to a younger, more radical element who are going to be intensely angry about losing their leadership. The attacks continue until a new more radical leader emerges or the IDF are forced to invade Gaza in which case they lose more men, the Palestinians are stirred up even more, international opinion gets riled up against Israel and things become very complicated.

Caution usually works better in the long run.

So Lieberman is correct, IMHO, that Netanyahu basically bought some quiet.

But, is it smart to enter into another Gaza mess, knowing that at the end Hamas will still be the dominant power?

    I don't know the answer.

The one thing that we can say with some certainty is a return to pre-2005 status is not an option.

The other observation here is Netanyahu again displays caution, despite his reputation abroad.

Looks like a cease fire is now in effect.

The way he showed and told it, this single piece of shrapnel penetrated into the Edris’ home via the corner of their bedroom, leaving a small hole in the wall near a wedding photo that’s hanging there.

It flew straight across the room, clearing the little white cot in which their eight-month-old sleeps on her Minnie Mouse pillow, and through the wall into the kitchen.

There, it smashed into the back of their refrigerator and out the front of it, across the kitchen, and into the oven. There, it finally ran out of steam.

    Stay safe guys.
Seems that the time of the year when IDF has to adminístrate massive doses of lead into the body of some moderate terrorists has finally arrived.
Oh man,and its just before Xmas!!!... what a coincidence

I bet ya that all Hamas armories, comand centers ammo dumps and what not happen to be on the first floor of a 2 storey building, being the 2nd floor a kindergarden, a dentist or medical consultory, a bakery or an animal shelter full of puppies. Well it has been that way for a few decades, soo…….. nothing new under the sun.

    Good Hunting IDF.

Damn and yet somehow it's all Israel's fault.. or it is according to some anyway. But I believe you have the right to defend yourself so here's wishing the IDF happy hunting!
