EX-SHIN BET CHIEF TELLS HOW HE ALTERED THE RULES FOR COMBATING TERRORISM

In an age of increasing tribal politics and partisanship, Yoram Cohen, the most recent ex-chief of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), is a pragmatist, a throwback to an earlier age.

Where many public figures today are more interested in showmanship and subscribing uncompromisingly to a camp and a specific ideology, Cohen, who is neither loud nor flamboyant, is razor-focused on practical solutions to national security problems.

EGYPT GASSED TUNNELERS, ISRAEL WOULDN’T. WHY THE DOUBLE STANDARD?

Were Israel to use Egyptian methods, it would presumably face a wave of global criticism as it does nearly any time it uses force. Why the double-standard?

Why there is a double-standard for criticism of Israel when it kills Gazans versus Egypt is likely less related to tunnel warfare than to the general trend of global human rights groups policing Israel’s use of force more carefully than many other countries.

As multiple experts have pointed out, the UNHRC report on the 2014 Gaza War had a whole section on the psychological harm from Israeli drones on Palestinians, but practically entirely ignored the psychological harm on Israelis from the tunnels and other Hamas threats.

COURT SETS NEW PRECEDENT AGAINST FLOTILLAS USED TO BREAK IDF GAZA BLOCKADE

The state can confiscate ships used in flotillas to break the IDF’s naval blockade of Gaza, the Haifa Court, sitting as a maritime court, has ruled setting a precedent which could deter the flotilla tactic.

Israeli Ministry of Strategic Affairs Warns of Global War Against Israel by ‘Terrorists in Suits’

Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs has warned in a new exclusive report released Sunday of a massive global war heating up against Israel, carried out by “terrorists in suits.”

The ministry’s report, entitled “Terrorists in Suits” reveals more than 100 different links shared between the internationally-designated terrorist organizations Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) with at least 13 anti-Israel BDS promoting NGOs.

The report released [Sunday, Feb. 3] aims to decidedly remove the “mask” of NGOs promoting BDS by exposing in an in-depth study the true nature of this scheme. Minister [Gilad] Erdan, along with other senior Israeli government officials, has been and will continue to call on Western countries to cease providing for anti-Israel activities, including halting the funding of NGOs promoting Israel boycotts, especially ones with strong ties to designated terrorist groups.

“Terrorist groups and the anti-Israel boycott campaign have united in their goal of wiping Israel off the map,” said Erdan following the release of the report.

“Terrorist groups view boycotts as a complementary tactic to terror attacks. Following the exposure of over 100 links between terrorist groups and leading BDS organizations, I urge all governments and financial institutions to investigate the activities of these BDS organizations, and immediately end all funding and support which they provide to them.”

Alan Dershowitz: Time to tell the truth about the Palestinian issue

The front page of the New York Times Sunday Review featured one of the most biased, poorly informed, and historically inaccurate columns about the conflict between Israel and Palestine ever published by a mainstream newspaper. Written by Michelle Alexander, it is entitled, "Time to break the silence on Palestine," as if the Palestinian issue has not been the most overhyped cause on campuses, at the United Nations, and in the media.

There is no silence to break. What must be broken is the double standard of those who elevate the Palestinian claims over those of the Kurds, the Syrians, the Iranians, the Chechens, the Tibetans, the Ukrainians, and many other more deserving groups who truly suffer from the silence of the academia, the media, and the international community. The United Nations devotes more of its time, money, and votes to the Palestinian issue than to the claims of all of these other oppressed groups combined.

The suffering of Palestinians, which does not compare to the suffering of many other groups, has been largely inflicted by themselves. They could have had a state, with no occupation, if they had accepted the Peale Commission Report of 1938, the United Nations Partition of 1947, the Camp David Summit deal of 2000, or the Ehud Olmert offer of 2008. They rejected all these offers, responding with violence and terrorism, because doing so would have required them to accept Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, something they are unwilling to do even today.

    Good shooting:
A Palestinian man tried to carry out a stabbing attack near the West Bank city of Hebron on Friday and was shot and critically injured by troops, the army said.
The Israel Defense Forces said the attacker was “neutralized” after attempting to stab soldiers at an army post near the Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba, and was taken to the hospital.

Over four years after a team of Hamas commandos entered Israel from the sea during the Gaza war of 2014, Israeli engineers are nearing completion of a smart sea barrier meant to prevent future attacks, Channel 10 news reported Monday.
Construction of the 200-meter-long barrier was carried out by the Defense Ministry off the beach of Zikim, on Gaza’s northernmost border. Work took seven months.
