  • USA: Psychologists Declare Traditional Masculinity ‘Harmful’

Oh, really? So what, we masculine men are suppose to move to Antarctica!? And leave the rest of the Western world to women?

The American Psychological Association (APA) has released guidelines that teach psychologists working with men and boys that “traditional masculinity is psychologically harmful.”

According to an APA announcement, the release of Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Boys and Men comes after a review of more than 40 years of research showing that men who are not emotionally expressive are damaged and end up with serious behavior problems.
    According to the APA announcement:
Men commit 90 percent of homicides in the United States and represent 77 percent of homicide victims. They’re the demographic group most at risk of being victimized by violent crime. They are 3.5 times more likely than women to die by suicide, and their life expectancy is 4.9 years shorter than women’s. Boys are far more likely to be diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder than girls, and they face harsher punishments in school—especially boys of color.

They want men to be more emotional and subservient, but the problem with this approach is that it produces men who are emotionally unstable and in dysfunctional relationships that breeds future generations of boys and girls who become pissed off at their parents.

Need an example? Look at the offspring of parents in the Victorian Era where men were taught to be complete gentlemen otherwise they would kill and rape everything in sight.

You have how many years of research to back this up?

As for this study, it's a bunch of crap. Boys will be boys.

An intolerant Trump loving, bible-stomping, racist, nazi bigot?

I tried to read the actual report but it's not my kind of reading. The definition of masculinity that appears in there seems to be "anti-femininity, achievement, eschewal of the appearance of weakness, and adventure, risk, and violence."

Some that being harmful just seems bizarre - achievement and adventure?

Can understand the "eschewal of the appearance of weakness" part though. We've all had it programmed into us to not show weakness which is probably why the largest cause of death for men under 45 in the UK is suicide - because none of us are willing to talk about our problems.

Achevment focus is one of main causes of mental problems for example in sports, corportate or military enviroment.

If not for achievement focus we would still be living in caves with astronomical infant mortality rates and abysmal life expectancy rates.

But yeah, the APA doesn't like achievement focus ... the fucking hypocrisy of it all.

Sure. It's also one of the main causes of... well... achieving things.
