  • Girl Scouts sue Boy Scouts over planned name change

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America have filed a lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America for dropping "boy" from the scout group's name.
The Boy Scouts of America announced in May they would rename the Boy Scouts programme Scouts BSA as they prepare to allow girls as members.
But the Girl Scouts say the change could erode their brand, calling the move "uniquely damaging" to them.
Their lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction against trademark breaches.
"Only GSUSA has the right to use the Girl Scouts and Scouts trademarks with leadership development services for girls," papers filed in a Manhattan federal court said.
The switch could "marginalise" the Girl Scouts, the complaint reads. It reportedly says the switch has already caused confusion, with some believing their organisation had merged with the Boy Scouts.

According to this testimony by Lynda Barry (starting at 4:00) the girl scouts were always kind of a sketchy organization.

Girl Scout cookies are not what they used to be. They buy cheap crap and stamp their logo on it and jack the price as high as they can. Then they camp out in front of Walmart and try to get you to buy them by using the cutest and youngest scouts to beg you to buy them. I think both girl and boy scouts exist today to sell stuff, not learn things. The Boy Scouts are apparently the number one sellers of popcorn.

You give an inch, they take 2 miles!

If you ask the Girl Scouts, they'd probably say a lot — so much so that the 106-year-old organization has sued the Boy Scouts of America in federal court over the use of the term "scouts."

The seeds for this trademark war were planted a year ago when the Boy Scouts announced it would open its membership to girls.

Elementary-age girls were allowed to put on Cub Scout uniforms and take part in activities this past summer.

                  Weird nobody predicted that outcome.

Wait... yes people did. But they got ridiculed.

I had to laugh, at the response made by a local legislator about the time that the Boy Scouts changed their name, a female who is a big supporter of the Girl Scouts and also a member of that "women together can do it all" tribe. When asked about the the new policy of the Boy Scouts to allow girls and what did the Girl Scouts plan to do in this regard, she said something along the lines of " I believe there is a value for a girls only program that the Girl Scouts have and that we should keep it that way".....
