Perhaps you prefer the nuclear option, personally, I prefer to do it the nice way. Knowing that whatever Trump does he will be severely criticized. I honestly think Trump finds great sport in pissing off the opposition here at home.

It's still a fucking idiotic thing to say. As was him relativizing the crimes against humanity committed over there. Have worse things been done elsewhere? Of course they have. The Mongols, the nazis, the commies— oh wait. He's talking about goddamn commies. Jesus. As of 2018, North Korea is strongly believed to have a six-figure concentration camp population. Let that sink in for a moment.

If Clinton had become president and uttered words such as Trump's the right would've fucking zerged her – and rightfully so.

I seriously don't understand how some of you manage to insist Trump's not like every other politician out there. He's an opportunist who doesn't give a fuck about what he said yesterday.

Here's wondering how Otto Warmbier's parents feel about all that jazz? smfh.
Or perhaps, just maybe he was joking. Perhaps, just maybe, like when he asked Russia to give us back Hillary's missing emails and the left had a total come apart. God damn, when Trump took office Obama told him that North Korea was the number one threat to this country. Number one. And now, everyone is parsing words, analyzing salutes, and generally being humorless fucks when we stand a good chance of removing this number one threat peacefully. Lord Obama couldn't do it, nor could anyone else. So maybe everyone should thank whatever God they worship that this might just happen. I don't give a shit what Trump says. Sanctions are all still in place, we got three hostages back, we have China, Both Korea and Japan on our side, we're getting remains of some 7000 MIA's back to their families, nuclear and ICBM test sites are being destroyed, no more missiles have been launched over Japan and we should be fucking happy campers about it.

FYI, just months ago, the best thinking of the "experts" on North Korea. No good options. None. Zero. While there is a long way to go with this current agreement, it's already a damn sight better than anything anyone envisioned just a few short months ago.

How to Deal With North Korea

There are no good options. But some are worse than others.
Let’s consider each option. All of them are bad.

It's clear that the Trump diplomacy is unreadable when you compare the way one of the worlds most brutal totalitarian states, armed with nuclear weapons, firing rockets on neighbors and threatening even the US gets a pass while a country like Iran gets sanctions for having developed a nuclear armement and balistic program prior to signing an agreement.

But it's important to keep in mind that Trump with NK is reacting to the diplomatic efforts of the South Koreans more than making his own.

South Korea and Japan are OK to gamble again with North Korea in the hope of peace while Iran's enemies are not, and Iran herself is not ready to lose a regional power status.

Japanese and Korean companies could use the best cheapest most disciplined manual labour in the world. For Japan's ageing pop a solution.
North can fund its modernization and shift to freer mixed market.

And off course the EU adours Iran.

Not sure what you're saying here. The severe sanctions imposed on North Korea by the UN (including China) will not be lifted until full de-nuclearization has been verified, how has that been giving the Norks a free pass? Iran was given not only a free pass to continue developing nuclear weapons, but was also given $150 billion dollars and had sanctions lifted before anything could be verified. Whether this works out or not, the ball is in North Korea's court. Hopefully they'll be smart enough to take this deal.

Also, while Trump has the best interests of South Korea in mind, he has the best interest of the US in mind first. The North Koreans can nuke the US mainland either thru an ICBM launch or a Scud launched from an offshore container ship. Obama gutted Dubya's missile defense program leaving us vulnerable to attack. North Korea was passed to Trump from Obama's policy of "Strategic Patience" as one of the most direct threats to the United States.

RB, yes the sanctions are still in place and NK is'nt about to turn in a Shenzen anytime soon. But NK won a meeting with Donald Trump, the NK president got praised by Trump, and they achieved this by politics of intimidation. They gave nothing up, the US on the other hand gave up a decades long policy of not meeting with the NK dictator that reps and dems defended. Compared to the case of Iran with a 'similar' past but who froze their programs and opened their installations quite wide open (even according to Donald Trumps staff), they get hit by a debilitating return of economic sanctions. It is unreadable.

The difference is in the standpoint of US local allies. The process with the Norks owe much more to the South Korean president. In the middle of tensions, he was very keen on creating dialogue and the US followed suit and offered on a plate the North Korean dictators dream of a one to one meeting with the U.S. leadership. It might be for good, dialogue is important.

In the Middle East, Saudi Arabia and Israel are not ready to take the steps the South Korean president has taken. And the US followed suit.

This makes the choices made by Donald Trump more readable.

Trump stops joint mil ex and says to retreat US troops from SK for a vague promise of denuclearisation without any further controls attached. What an achievement! Meanwhile he withdraws from an already signed treaty with Iran that actually had IAEA controls and everything you can get out of such a deal in place. What maybe wrong here?

And Kim seems to be upgrading his reactor. Not surprising coming from Kim, but evidences all this chest beating, yeah Trump did horseshit is premature.
