  • London's murder rate surpasses New York's for 1st time ever

LONDON -- A surge of stabbings in London was blamed Monday for the city overtaking New York's monthly murder tally for the first time in modern history. Fifteen people were murdered in London during February, compared to 14 in New York, according to police figures.
The British capital also suffered 22 fatal stabbings and shootings in March, higher than the 21 in New York. There have been 10 fatal stabbings in London in the last 19 days, following on from the 80 fatal stabbings recorded in the city last year.
London's murder rate has grown by nearly 40 percent in three years, while police figures show that New York's has fallen by 87 percent since 1990, raising pressure on London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Metropolitan Police chief Cressida Dick

The parallels to gun control is stunning.
Yes, because it’s the knife that’s the problem. Or the screwdriiver, axe, hammer, crowbar, box cutter, tent peg or naked photograph of Hillary Clinton.

It's been a particularly violent night in London:

Man stabbed to death as six people knifed in night of bloodshed across London
A man was stabbed to death as six people were knifed in a night of bloodshed across London.

Another man is fighting for life while the youngest victim, stabbed in Brixton, south London, was just 13 years old.

Police were called to an address in Marsh Road in Pinner, a leafy suburb in north-west London, at about 6am on Sunday.

A man who had been stabbed was pronounced dead at the scene.

    There's also this:
#Greenwich Met Police say they are investigating after the discovery of a body on Calderwood Street, #Woolwich, #SE18. Police were called at 07:50 this morning. The man is believed to be aged 38. His death is currently being treated as unexplained.

It is believed that this brings the number of murder investigations to 29 for London alone so far this year.
    https://twitter.com/999London/status...31977006063616

This follows the trend of last year where February and March is when the most stabbings/deaths of the year occur.

Knife crime: Asda to remove single kitchen knives from sale
Supermarket chain Asda has pledged to remove all single kitchen knives from sale amid concerns about their use in violent crime.

It comes as 41 people have been killed in stabbings in the UK this year.

Single kitchen knives are the most frequently stolen knives, Asda said, prompting the decision to stop their sale by the end of April.

Nick Jones, Asda senior vice-president, said the company had "a responsibility to support the communities we serve".

"Whilst we have already taken steps to restrict the sale of knives to ensure that they do not fall into the wrong hands, we felt there was more we could be doing to support those looking at how to bring this issue under control", he said.
