  • London gangs including the Mali Boys are becoming more 'organised, ruthless and driven by drugs profits', report finds

One gang in east London called the Mali Boys typifies the new criminal outfit, according to the report on gangs commissioned by Waltham Forest council.

They are said to be “the most business driven, violent and ruthless” of a new type of gang which shuns social media and technology in a bid to remain anonymous to the police.

The group has become the most dominant in Waltham Forest which has seen two gang linked killings so far this year.

Professor Andrew Whittaker of London South Bank University, the report’s author, says: “Although the Mali Boys may appear to be a local phenomenon, there is growing evidence that they are part of a wider pan-London development as gangs become more organised.”

One unnamed professional told the study the Somali gang had formed alliances with other gangs in the borough adding: “It’s almost like a franchise, like McDonalds or Benetton where the Mali Boys have got a very effective pyramid structure, business plan, but instead of burgers and woolly jumper its Class A drugs and cannabis.”

The gang use old fashioned Nokia phones because they are less easy to track and are estimated to be raking in as much as £50,000 a week in profits from drug sales.

Is this the beginning of the formation of domestic cartels in the UK?

      Unlikely
You have the same phenomenon that we have
Small gangs "protecting" their territories and trying to get a slice of an opposite gang area of work
With regular repraisal expeditions mainly in the suburbs and sometimes in plain cities centers
It's a not so organized crime (not at the level of cartels or what we knew like the french connection etc)
It is pretty rare to have high level criminals openly involved (happened though in Marseilles a few months ago when a gang hired albanian hitmen to get rid of conccurence)

Not for the want of trying. Believe me, there are some who operate with that level of ruthlessness and organisational acumen, but you need dirty officials, they're not that easy to get, we're too small am island with lots of oversight.

They're essentially mini-cartels, fighting a constant turf war.

Teenagers charged with knife possession offences achieve poorer results at GCSE or equivalent level compared with the entire pupil population but also other types of offenders, official analysis has revealed. Just under 50% of young offenders who have committed knife possession offences attained five or more GCSEs with an A* to G grade, compared with 90% of all pupils, just over 60% of all offenders and 55% of theft offenders, according to a report from the Ministry of Justice and Department for Education.

          I'm shocked.

                • LONDON CRIME COMES TO THE COUNTRYSIDE: Shocking statistics show how capital city drug gangs are setting up elsewhere and bringing shocking violence with them

LONDON gang members describe being sent beyond the capital to sell drugs as 'going country' - and government statistics show they're doing it more and more.

With drug dealing comes violence - and Hertfordshire, Hampshire, Cambridgeshire, Warwickshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, Thames Valley and North Wales have seen major increases in knife crime since 2014.

Knife crime in London is up 20% in the period between 2014 to 2017, however the increase in the countryside has been far more dramatic.
                  • Warwickshire saw a 180% increase
                  • In Hertfordshire there has been a 150% increase, with 229 incidents in 2014 increasing to 573 in 2017
                  • North Wales has seen a 134% increase
                  • Hampshire has seen a 102% increase in knife crime
                  • Bedfordshire an 86% rise
                  • Essex has also seen an 86% inrease
                  • Cambridgeshire has seen an 83% increase during this period
                  • Thames Valley is up 50%
                  • However the most dramatic increase is in Norfolk, where knife crime has increased a stunning 274%
Commenting on the figures at the time, Vince O'Brien, who heads tackling drugs at the National Crime Agency, said: "There is an increasing level of violence coming from city gangs establishing themselves in new drugs markets in rural areas.

"Counties which surround London are being affected."

                  • ‘People are terrified' Londoners TRAPPED at home and learning SELF-DEFENCE

Every corner of London has seen a rise in violent crimes, including stabbings, shootings, burglaries, rapes and homicides.
And Daily Star Online has spoken to residents so terrified they won't leave their homes.

People in the capital are even resorting to learning self-defence to protect themselves from attacks.

Violent crime is up as much as 14% in parts of London, a study by criminal solicitors firm Lawtons with Met Police data revealed.
Across London crime is up more than 6%, representing almost 50,000 crimes.

Homicide is up a staggering 44% – or 157 deaths – in London.

Knife crime is up by more than a fifth, while muggings are up more than a quarter.

Total robbery has gone up by 36%, representing almost 33,000 crimes.

Londoners are scared to leave their homes for anything “unnecessary”.

Stephanie Jannati, from Rotherhithe, south east London, told Daily Star Online people are genuinely worried and scared.
“People are terrified to leave their houses.”

“They don’t want to leave for unnecessary things later in the evening because they’re scared of getting hurt.

“Even if it’s popping to the shop, they’ll leave it until the next morning so they don’t feel as vulnerable,” the mum-of-two said.

But with attacks and stabbings happening in broad daylight, people in the capital feel even more trapped.

“After a man and woman got attacked in the local park in the middle of the day in the half-term holiday, I knew I needed to do something,” Stephanie said.
In response to the capital's bloodbath, she has arranged self defence classes so those living in the city can learn what to do if they become a victim.
“People feel very vulnerable so I’ve put on self defence workshops in direct response to the violence.”

Stephanie’s free workshops booked up straight away, and she has a long waiting list of terrified people waiting to learn to defend themselves.
“People need to know how to be aware, to minimise risk and how to handle situations if they find themselves in them,” Stephanie said.
“Policing is massively stretched. We need to be able to protect ourselves if anything happens."

London currently has just under 30,000 police officers, the lowest number in 15 years.

The 34-year-old, who was herself the victim of a mugging in Canada Water in 2010, said: “We want the freedom to walk around in safety, but we just can’t do that at the moment.”
                    https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/lat...defence-scared

If only citizens had access to pepper spray, but unfortunately in the UK pepper spray is considered as dangerous as full-auto AK-47s and RPGs as far as The Crown is concerned.

I don't know where they pulled that 157 homicide figure from, as London homicides stand at 76 since the start of this year.

May be a load of BS but living in London for the past 12 years I always found London safe until the last 2 years. Even the current home secretary got mugged in plain sight.

                              Not just phones either.

A father got beaten to death with a cricket bat in broad daylight when he approached a gang of boys and asked them about his kids’ stolen bikes.

                              • London stabbing: Two attacked in Hammersmith as police battle 'extremely high demand'
It comes as police officers in Barking and Dagenham were forced to remind members of the public only to call 999 in the event of an emergency as it experienced an "extremely high demand".

They tweeted: "The East Area CU @MPSBarkDag @MPSHavering @MPSRedbridge are experiencing an extremely high demand today, resourcing multiple critical incidents amongst the day to day policing. Please only call 999 in an emergency. Visit the Met Police website to report non-emergency incidents."

The double stabbing brings the number of attacks in London up to three in just 24 hours.

A 15-year-old was stabbed to death in Romford in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, London has been rocked by violence this weekend after a man was found dead outside Greenford underground station in west London on Saturday morning.

Just a few miles away, police were called to reports of a stabbing in South Harrow, northwest London.

A woman in her 50s was found stabbed to death in her back garden in Greenwich on Saturday morning.
