Last October, some old tweets of a West Point cadet in a Che Guevara shirt sparked outrage across the country.

The soldier pictured, now 2nd Lt. Spenser Rapone, had been openly serving as an avowed communist supporting the downfall of the U.S. government.

Both the United States Military Academy and his current command, the 10th Mountain Division, launched investigations into his conduct.

The Army’s statement comes days after some media outlets reported that Rapone had received an other than honorable discharge from the Army.

I bet that's true. He makes for a poor example of a West Point Cadet.

Believing in an ideology is one thing.
Wanting the people you serve, and thus your own country, to fail is another. You may disagree with the government, and want the people in office out, but that guy goes to far.

Anyone who wants Communism needs to get their mental health checked.

Well, I remember our drill instructor saying (actually he was yelling) that we could wear a god damn Mickey Mouse Tee shirt under our ceremonial uniform. I guess it doesn't cover Che Guevara.

And the current push for a Laissez-faire system is working wonders?

Real wages are dropping, cost of living exploding and there is more homeless people now than at any other point in recent history.

Mindy, you've never lived in a "communist" country. STFU.

I cringe at the thought of a team being assigned under his command.

That's no justification for choosing communism or the other extreme.
Communism never has been nor will be an answer.
Unless we turn into the Borg.

A moderate application of some socialistic ideas in conjunction with capitalism is what could be the best working solution.
                    I myself am a semi-socialist and I say F*** communism.

to put it simply "least worst"

Liberal democracies with high levels of social welfare.

The only question is this sustainable with the massive amounts of debt generated. You know full well Mindy, the greatest expenditure of Australian government is welfare, the vast majority going to old age pension.

The standard pension payment does not cover the average weekly rent in Sydney. The Dole which is about half that...........Your fucked basically.

Look at the shit the Royal Commission into the banks has uncovered and it's only just started. Tax avoidance by big business.

Doesn't help that old people outnumber the younger ones.

                            Another huge problem in itself.

I think the numbers are something like

                            1950s 50 workers to 1 pension welfare
2010s 3 workers to 1 pension or welfare

You can't escape the math. No matter your choice of economic or political system.

Once apon a time you would have different generations living in the same house taking care of each other. The scattered to the winds family is not helping the situation were the government is expected to provide cradle to the grave welfare.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — The images Spenser Rapone posted on Twitter from his West Point graduation were intentionally shocking: In one, the cadet opens his dress uniform to expose a T-shirt with a blood-red image of socialist icon Che Guevara.

In another, he raises his fist and flips his cap to reveal the message: “Communism will win.” Less than a year after Rapone’s images drew a firestorm of vitriol and even death threats, the second lieutenant who became known as the “commie cadet” is officially out of the U.S. Army with an other-than-honorable discharge.
