  • News about terrorism - foiled attacks, arrests, threat level etc

I come across news regarding terrorism sometimes that isn't related to any specific attack and don't really know where to post it since it doesn't fit event-specific threads or it's not significant enough. So maybe made a new thread instead to post smaller news about terrorism is a good idea?

    --------------------------------------

Today the Marechaussee (military police) increased protection around Amsterdam's Schiphol airport following a credible threat. The exact reason for increasing security wasn't made public. The number of officers has been increased and there are traffic checks on roads leading to the airport. This has lead to some delays lasting up to an hour.

    ---

Two people were arrested in Brussels yesterday on suspicion of preparing an attack.

    ---

A 41 year old man arrested in Doesburg, the Netherlands in June 2015 is being suspected of preparing a terrorist attack. When he was arrested he threw away a bag that contained explosive material. Abdel O. posted a picture of a pipebomb on WhatsApp along with the message "I've got everything prepared. As many dogs as possible. They need to feel what death is like".

He is a supporter of daesh and was conspiring with another man. He is being suspected of attempting to commit terrorism and will likely be charged for that.

Sorry, source is in French : http://www.lefigaro.fr/flash-actu/20...-en-examen.php

A 19 year-old convert has been arrested near Paris on suspicions he was about to make an attack of undetermined nature. He was flagged for being in the Facebook contacts of the cop killer of Magnanville and his computer contained a lot of research and history of looking into djihadi sites and propaganda. He was in contact with another french national that is currently in ISIS territory until very recently, and he was boasting on the social media a lot about how he was "ready to act".

He's being charged for "association with criminal organisations in prepration to acts of terror".

A secret group bought the ingredients for a dirty bomb — here in the U.S.

The clandestine group’s goal was clear: Obtain the building blocks of a radioactive “dirty bomb” — capable of poisoning a major city for a year or more — by openly purchasing the raw ingredients from authorized sellers inside the United States. It should have been hard.

For those interested, EUROPOL released the 2016 TE-SAT (Terrorism Situation and Trend Report). Worth checking out Annex 7 "AMENDMENTS IN NATIONAL LEGISLATION ON TERRORISM IN 2015" among other things.

Measures are still in place. People have already been scheduled in from all over the country, but services are still running out of available staff to maintain the current level.

                    ---

Armed officers from France have started random patrols on ferries going to the UK. For now the patrols are only done in French territorial waters. They're inserted onto the ships by helicopter.

                    ---

Terror suspect Anis B. has been extradited to France today. On top of the charges the French will file he will also be facing charges there for illegal possession of a firearm in the Netherlands and so won't be returning to the Netherlands.

                    B. was arrested in Rotterdam in March after a request from France. In his flat the police found 45 kilograms of ammunition. In his parent's house in France the police found jihadi videos and guides on how to make bombs.

Anis B. is an acquintance of Reka Kriket who was arrested in Paris and believed to be on the verge of carrying out a terrorist attack. Kriket was driving around in a car registered to B.

                    ---

By my own calculations 45 kilograms of ammo if all in 7,62x39 would equal about 2450 rounds!

British Muslim woman detained under terror laws after cabin crew report her reading Syrian art book on plane
                      http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a7168751.html

Step 2: ban all books in Arabic and/or about the Middle East.
Step 3: only Reader's Digest and watching ads in sports magazines is allowed.

I hope she gets properly compensated.

He’s the son of Osama bin Laden’s bombmaker. Then ISIS wanted him as one of its own.

Masri is among the few who can claim to have spent significant time at al-Qaeda’s camps in Afghanistan as well as in the dystopian Islamic State capital of Raqqa in northern Syria — and the only person so far to emerge from those experiences and speak about them in detail. In some ways, he represents the shared DNA of those organizations, as well as the violent disagreements over tactics and objectives that have rendered them incompatible.
