  • Why there is very movie about Burma's Campaign

During the ww2 one of the most epic battle was fought here, even some called it the greatest battle fought by the British army. The air battle of Imphal, commonwealth airmen called we had our own battle of Britain here, and the battle was so epic it was called Stalingrad of the East, there are some daring stories on raids by Chindit into deep enemy territories. Yet there are very few cinema on this front? What could be the reason, has the forgotten army forgotten and will fade away?

Yes, I know that movie, it more of an experiment from him then actual cinema, he wanted to make a cinema but to due to lack of capital he stuck to the short stories, more is based on reconciliation then actual battle tho.

        The honest answer is complicated

First and foremost Studios want a Profit and to at least recoup their expenses making a movie.

Its likely they feel a movie about Burma campaign will not draw the audiences they want, that it is a Niche only popular with Indian and British audiences (No Americans- which itself if not correct as there were quite a few US units there).

Then you have the technical reasons of trying to haul filming gear into a jungle and acquiring and transporting the Military equipment needed to the locale. Its not like the world is awash in Stuarts and Lee Grant tanks anymore. Keeping the cast and crew and extras housed, fed, protected medically and physical security.

This all before even settling on a script.

Could be computer generated but the cost would be high. Plus anything put on film to put arses on cinema seats and make money is done at the sacrifice of truth and reality, hard to have a love story with leeches unless its going to be gay!

the answer is simple any such movie will have ord wingate as the main hero

making the movie about him and his greatest legacy (the idf )

such a movie will make the british military establishment look like evil fools and incompetents

only israel will dare make such a movie

Wingate was a complete and utter fuckwit whose sole talent was talking a big talk at a time when that paid off. His raids achieved little, his methods were stupid.

I agree with what LD has said, I guess profit margin is very less for such an exotic story.
wingate could be a good plot and how he died there, well in a movie it doesn't have to be accurate at all, like the most movie.

Eitherway maybe I could make a short film hahaha, it would be fun, kiwi or anyone of you can come down for Holidays here, I take you for battle field tour, grab some 303 and make short film :P
