    • Not exactly on topic because much more than the Holocaust is covered, but...the new POLIN musuem in Warsaw about the history of Jews in Poland is absolutely magnificient. You need a day there to see all the material and testimonies collected and brilliantly displayed in frescoes and screens...not to mention artefacts and memorabilia. The museum covers the history of Jews from their arrival in Poland in the tenth century to today. Good jewish restaurant too. And great symbolic location opposite to the ghetto uprising memorial.

      Beautiful.

Poland's Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich said that initially, some were puzzled by Reece. "Steven is so unique, we're not used to people like that," he said.

"But as soon as I met him I realized that he was the real thing," Schudrich added. "There are special, unique, saintly people in the world. It transcends religion, nationality, and ethnicity. Steven Reece is one of them."

MI6 agent Frank Foley used his cover job as a passport officer in Berlin to freely issue British visas to German Jews in the 1930s

Britain’s Prince William unveiled a statue of Frank Foley, a British spy who helped save thousands of Jews from the Nazis during the Holocaust.

Holocaust Memorial rises from writer’s hope

Steve often told me what it was like as a young boy growing up in Poland under Adolf Hitler’s oppressive regime in the early 1940s. Co-authors Brian Wallace and Glen Frank brilliantly capture both Steve’s early life and career as a professional and effective advocate for inner-city kids and how he devoted his life to helping them stay out of trouble and find positive and hopeful futures.

                        • Charles Aznavour, French singer with Armenian descent who passed away Sunday came from a family that protected Jews from nazis during WWII. He was still quite young at that time to do that himself (20 years old at the liberation of Paris).

More reasons for me to miss his simple and yet pure and unforgettable songs...

He was scheduled to play in Tel Aviv next July, having played a hugely successful concert there last year. On that visit, he was honored in Israel for his family’s efforts to protect Jews and others persecuted by the Nazis during World War II. He received the honor from Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who spoke of his love of Aznavour’s music, saying “La Boheme” was his favorite song.
And still doing concerts at 93 years old...

Holocaust survivor who became US Army major general has died

Sidney Shachnow, who survived the Holocaust as a child and fought in Vietnam as a U.S. Army Green Beret before becoming a major general, has died. He was 83.

Shachnow's wife, Arlene, said by phone Wednesday that he passed away on Sept. 27 at a hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina. They lived in the nearby town of Southern Pines.

Shachnow was involved in some of the biggest events of the 20th century, from enduring the horrors of Nazi-controlled Europe to leading U.S. Army troops in Berlin during the fall of the Berlin Wall.

                            • The Holocaust in Italy

But Levis Sullam attributes the genocide of Italy’s Jews less to the Salò government’s grand elevated theory than to its quotidian bureaucratic practice. He reckons that Italians were responsible for 2,210, or roughly half, of all arrests and deportations of Jews, most on their own but some in conjunction with German officers. Yet even the remainder of arrests, which the Germans alone executed, universally relied on “the help of information and organizational support from the Italians”—most prominently the 1938 census that identified the names and addresses of all Jews residing in the country.

                              • Today marks the 74th anniversary of a revolt by Jewish prisoners at Auschwitz-Birkenau in which 60 Greek Jews are believed to have participated and died.

The historic prisoner revolt — the only such revolt known to have taken place at the camp — was led by members of the Sonderkommando — so-called “special units” comprised predominantly of Jewish inmates whose tasks included disposing of people’s bodies after Nazis murdered them in the gas chambers.
