ISIS rise surprised Obama, US intelligence.

Washington (CNN)ISIS' march across Iraq and Syria -- a campaign that's forced President Barack Obama to return small numbers of US troops to the region, even after touting an end to the decade-long ground offensives there -- came as a surprise to US intelligence, the President told CNN in a new special report.

The terror organization's rise in a tumultuous Middle East has provided Obama some of the toughest decisions of his presidency, choices that CNN's Fareed Zakaria explores in "The Legacy of Barack Obama" airing Wednesday.
The ability of ISIL to not just mass inside of Syria, but then to initiate major land offensives that took Mosul, for example, that was not on my intelligence radar screen," Obama told Zakaria, using the administration's term for the Islamic State terror group.
As Obama's presidency concludes, it's clearer than ever he'll depart the White House with Syrians facing nearly unyielding misery.

    • I'm seeing reports about an airstrike that missed it's intended target, a mosque housing a daesh HQ in Qaim, 300km northwest of Bagdad. Instead of the HQ the bombs hit a busy market and several houses killing at least 55 according to a local hospital. Who carried out the airstrike is still uncertain, but a member of the Iraqi parliament said that it was the Iraqi airforce. Sources within daesh are saying the same.

      • Anything known about alleged US airstrike on Iraq troops, were there any comments from Iraq officials about confirming/denying it, aside from the "source from Iraq army" that local news agency used to confirm it?

Nope , part of the multimilion arms export deal between Croatia and Iraq.

All 3 sides use them Iraqi Police , Peshmerga and Daesh captured some already.

You mean as a FA-MAS replacement ? Well, yeah, the VHS-2 looks super cool and futuristic, but I think the Ministère de la Défense eliminated it from the test during the inquiries for a new assault rifle.

I'd love to see it made in airsoft (if the CZ Bren 805 was made, no reason not to do the same with the VHS-2)

                    • Yes, the VHS-2 was a clear outsider from the start. Seem that the size of the company and it's "newcommer" status in the field of assault rifle play against them.
It would have allowed to keep the "look" of french soldiers in operation. It don't seem important but in some African countries the FAMAS+VAB signify "don't piss us, we are foreign legion".
I'm still searching for a leak of the full evaluations result.

                      • ISIS claims to shoot down Iraqi helicopter, killing 4 on board

ISIS have announced in a statement that it has shot down an Iraqi helicopter, killing 4 on board.

The helicopter was shot down according to ISIS on the perimeter of Makhoul mountain in Salahuddein province.

Meanwhile, in a contradictory manner, iraqi state media have rejected the ISIS claims, and have said that the Russian-made assault MI-35 helicopter was downed due to technical failure.

With the amount of money these organisations receive from shell corporation "charitable organisations" located on some tiny islands I wouldn't be surprised.

Media officials with the Ministry of Defense (War Media Cell) announced on Tuesday, that ISIS detonated two bridges in the city of Mosul, in order to hinder the advance of security of security forces to the western side of the city, IraqiNews reported.

The officials said in a press statement, “Today, ISIS detonated the 5th bridge and the iron bridge in the western side of Mosul.”

“ISIS detonated the bridges in order to hinder the advance of security forces to the western side of Mousl,” the statement added.

Iraqi forces have reached a portion of the east side of the Tigris river which divides Mosul in two halves. Iraqi forces continue their operation to liberate the entirety of East Mosul before crossing the Tigris.
