  • Saudi-led coalition attacks Yemen's key port of Hodeidah

A Saudi-led coalition launched an assault on Yemen’s main port city of Hodeidah on Wednesday in the biggest battle of a three-year war between an alliance of Arab states and the Iran-aligned Houthis.

    ...

Coalition warplanes and warships pounded Houthi fortifications to support ground operations by Yemeni troops massed south of the country’s largest port, the internationally recognized Yemeni government in exile said.

The “Golden Victory” operation began after the passing of a deadline set by the United Arab Emirates for the Houthis, who hold the capital Sanaa and the main populated areas of Yemen, to quit the sole port under their control.

    ...

Houthi leader Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, who has threatened attacks on oil tankers along the strategic Red Sea shipping lane, warned the Western-backed alliance not to attack the port and said on Twitter his forces had targeted a coalition barge.

Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said two missiles struck the barge, but there was no immediate confirmation from the coalition.

Guess that the UN's mediation efforts fell through - though it's not as though anyone seriously believed that they had a chance anyway.

The piece about the barge should be taken with the usual skepticism. The story going around the twitter rumor mill was that it was ferrying troops to shore as part of an amphibious operation, so if the Houthis did hit it, they may have made a real mess out of the landing forces.

    • A military vessel currently on fire in the Red Sea off the coast of Hodeidah belongs to the UAE, two senior Yemeni-Houthi military commanders tell CNN. US officials confirm it was attacked by Houthi rebels & caught fire. A US official confirms to CNN the craft belongs to the UAE

Seems to confirm Houthi claims above, as does the concurrent admission by the UAE of the deaths of four navy personnel. The Houthis may have bagged one of the UAE navy's LCUs.

You must be joking, the whole war on Yemen by the Wahhabi monkeys is aided and abetted by the US (SF, aerial refueling and intel) and hired UK ex-military advisors.

          • French special forces on the ground in Yemen: Le Figaro

French special forces are present on the ground in Yemen with forces from the United Arab Emirates, French newspaper Le Figaro reported on Saturday, citing two military sources.

The newspaper gave no further information about their activities. The Defence Ministry was not immediately available for comment, but its usual policy is not to comment on special forces’ operations.

A French parliamentary source recently told Reuters French special forces were in Yemen.

            • Apparently a demining squad if we are to believe French authorities...from what I read the US had refused to do it.

No French soldier should be there helping this sunni coalition.

              • This is a very big mistake. Risking the life of french servicemen, so the honchos at Dassault can open a few more champagne bottles after signing with the Saudis just the sale of another batch of planes that wont help them sh¡t because their military is useless.

Hope french soldiers to stay safe. They shouldnt be there in first place, but they dont enjoy the liberty of choosing whuch orders to follow.

I dont like it at all. I can easily see the UAE or Saudis feeding them wrong intel and walk them into an ambush just to internationalize their war on Yemen. This Saudi tribal war is not worth a single drop of blood from the servicemen of any respectable country (AKA- non pseudo-religious muslim regimes, arab dictatorships from ME and north africa, or third world sh¡tholes like Sudan or Somalia)

Also the Coalition has lost a lot of armored and unarmored vehicles, around 40+ in this battle alone.

                    • Yemen Houthis Launch Attack on Saudi-Led Coalition's Supply Line

Yemen rebels attacked government supply lines south of Hodeidah, slowing a Saudi-led coalition’s efforts to oust them from the port city through which desperately needed aid enters.

The rebels harried coalition fighters in nighttime attacks from farms located on the Red Sea coastal road south of the city, forcing them to reroute troops and supplies, said a government commander who asked not to be identified discussing the battle’s progress. The coalition responded with gunfire from Apache helicopters, according to the commander and Mohamed Naji, a fighter.

The funny thing here is how they claim that it was 'nighttime' attacks, while the videos being released by the Houthis show them hitting MRAPs on the road in broad daylight.

If they loose vehicles and we sell them other ones I am fine with that. We could also provide Houtis with anti-tank weapon as far as I am concerned.

Why would they sacrifice people for such a shitty venture?

Our DefMin said there is no french soldiers in Yemen and it is a confusion with a proposal for sending unexploded ordnance disposal teams in the port to keep it open if/when the situation gets stabilized
