  • For anyone interested there's a RAF flypast of London today, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Air Force - https://www.raf.mod.uk/raf100/news/1...-celebrations/

It's scheduled to be over the centre of London in about 50 minutes, I imagine coverage of it will be on BBC News 24 and SKY News if you have access to it.

      • Impressive display, both the flying and the drill. William looked a little emotional during towards the end.

        • They should have continued on to fly over Heathrow which is massively annoying because I'm not in the office down there this week.

          • Thanks for the info. I caught what I think was the very end of it on Sky's iPad app.

            • It was impressive and a lot of engineering effort!

MOD livestream of the flypast. First aircraft appear at 22:30 minutes in.

A tank explosion which killed two British Army soldiers was caused by a design flaw, a coroner has found.
Royal Tank Regiment corporals Matthew Hatfield, 27, and Darren Neilson, 31, died during a live firing exercise at Castlemartin Range in Pembrokeshire.
A seal stopping explosive gases escaping into a tank crew's turret was not in place before the lethal blast.
The reference to ammo bags in soldiers laps is interesting. I've heard of lap loading but I was under the impression that it mostly involved having the inert projectile ready to go rather than the propellant charge. That said I can believe corners were cut in that regard in the interests of maintaining a high rate of fire. Either way it's good to have an answer and that it's an issue which both improved equipment and training can address to prevent a reoccurrence.
