Well, it's not good. But here's at least a positive story

The taliban take afghan army/police/... in large numbers as prisoners and run jails. Calling this story "positive" is very optimistic.

US Special Ops soldier killed in Afghanistan firefight

One U.S. special operations soldier was killed and another was wounded while fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan Tuesday, a U.S. defense official confirms to Fox News.

When a U.S. military “medevac” helicopter landed in Helmand Province in the city of Marjah to get wounded U.S. and Afghan troops out of the area, the helicopter sustained damage when mortars landed near the helicopter.

Blows my mind to see attacks in Lashkar Gah. I'm a Marjah vet from the 2010 Holding phase (June-December) and Trek Nawa from the drawdown period (December 2011 - June 2012). The provincial capital was pretty safe during my time there, in fact it was the only real city in the region from what we knew. The corps invested A LOT of resources in Marjah, including dozens of KIA's and hundreds of WIA. By the time the city was handed over violence was but a glimpse of what it was before. To hear that SF troops were pinned down with 1 KIA and a helo damaged was a tough one to accept for me. We literally cleared, held and patrolled every kilometer of road and searched basically every building in the area during occupation. We all knew the afghan forces were not going to last very long on their own without proper support, but the rate at which territory is being lost shocks me. At the end it was all politics and bullshit. Politicians wanted out of Afghan and the brass went with it. In 2012 the base we demolished in order to withdraw from a chunk of Trek Nawa just led to a bigger hole for the taliban to operate in. Our sister platoon even took casualties in that same area. It was all rushed. The company withdrew from Trek just so another Marine company from a different unit could come in later and have to flush out the taliban from areas that were "relatively" safe. We shouldn't have left that fast... at the same time would have been sucked in there by the tens of thousands for years and years.

Afghan is truly a cluster of trouble... don't see things getting better. Specially under this administration.

What else would you expect? The moment we leave the place the ANA and ANP are too busy getting high and fucking each other to give a shit about doing their jobs. The place will eventually revert back to pre invasion times, Taliban and various other warlords and druglords will take over the place. Didn't need a crystal ball to figure that out.
