Leasing a couple of A400's from Germany is very interesting, for a country like Denmark. We are looking into buying a 5th C130J-30 but 2 A400's would beef up our airlift capability a lot more.

I wonder if Airbus is considering a stretched version of the A400M? Like Hercules -30.

Why not just to extend NATO's heavy airlift wing with some A400's?

We are not part of that. And our national needs is enough to keep them busy. We currently use Ukrainian IL-76 to fullfill our needs(Like moving 1.000.000L of fuel from Thule AB to Station Nord, Greenland.. as we speak).

Maybe Denmark can join EATC with the leased A400Ms if they don't use them 100% of the time.

Advantage would be the access to other types aircraft most notably tankers.

I don't speak German. Is DASS only the flares or a full system that automatically launches flares when the plane is being targeted.

The latter as you already found out

It is abit complicated as always with German procurement.

DASS is delivered in 2 steps:

Step 1 "traditional" radar/ missile warner chaff and flares

Step 2 additional DIRCM developed by Diehl BGT in cooperation with Elbit systems

                        Only in German:

Just as a sidenote. Did you know that head of the Airbus Group Thomas Enders (nickname "Major Tom") is a former Fallschirmjäger? He even is test-jumping himself and presumably is the person with the most jumps from the A400M so far. That's something I'd call dedication. From what I get the project maybe would be dead already if it wouldn't be for him.
