I recently discovered that a great uncle of mine owned and ran a knife factory from 1942 to 1954. He was invalidated out of the army from Crete with Malaria and so decided to use his metal working skills to open a factory. It employed 15 to 20 people at it's height, mostly making knives for the local freezing works but also some consumer knives for cooking etc.

It closed in 1954 after the NZ government decided to allow imports from the UK again, and he couldn't compete with Sheffield steel and NZ wages (among the worlds highest at the time).

I've been keeping an eye out in case one ever comes up for auction locally.

Does anybody have experience with Karesuando knives?
I'm thinking about purchasing a knive kit (comes with a sheath, a blade, wooden block for the grip and some other stuff from which i don't know the correct english terms) from Karesuando.
I don't really have the proper tools for making a "perfect" grip but i think glue, a saw, some sandpaper and a lot of sweat will do the job just fine.
Oh and a lot of cursing. Cursing is important.

                            It is. It is indeed.

All the reviews I have watched and read are praising that knife, its quality and its very low price.

It's not a real project if there isn't a lot of cursing.
